Streaming of Ed Angel's OpenGL class at Santa Fe Complex

Stephen Guerin
We're doing a test stream of Ed's class on UStream starting at noon
today. We are using a laptop with webcam...we can improve quality next
week with multiple cameras and external mic if this proves useful.

Please beam in at:
  http://www.ustream.tv/channel/santa-fe-complex1

Thanks Owen and Roy for setting this up!

This is perfect. Thanks! I don't think I'd be able to see it otherwise since Santa Fe is a bit of a trip for my lunch break.

Just fyi, the video stream is coming in perfect. It's slightly dark, but the audio comes in well.

The live version is a little low res. You can later watch a higher res archived version. We'll work on lighting and cameras next week.

Just FYI, I can follow basically everything here in Transylvania in
Romania. Video quality can indeed be improved, but the stream is
continuous and the sound is great.

Best,
Gabi

Help anybody, please,
I tried logging into to ustream and after a monstrous number of requests to
join clubs or groups got completely misdirected to more and more ads...

I am not up on the social media stuff so it is new to me.
I managed to see a few minutes of video with sound then it disappeared and I
saw some people standing and sitting around but could not tell who or what
they were doing.

It seems one has to be a member of some social order to be allowed to simply
view streams? They asked me for my birth date and personal information etc
but no luck with sound or a broadcast.

There must be some protocol that I must observe in order to establish the
link. Bit hard with all the advertising banners etc flying about.
At times like this I admit I feel very old and

I didn't need to sign up for anything. I also didn't see any ads (I have adblock installed however).

Perhaps you logged on right when they were shutting things down?

Wow.  I wish Java had not lost so many battles.  The code structure in these examples are brilliant.

Re: Streaming of Ed Angel's OpenGL class at Santa Fe Complex

Edward Angel
Any book on Java, OpenGL and Jogl has to be over five years out of date. Jogl was popular for a while because CS students were learning Java as their primary programming language. There was a lot of activity for a while with Sun and Java3D but when that died, it ignited some interest in Jogl. However, Jogl 1x is totally out of date being based an old OpenGL. Updating it to include programmable shaders is not trivial. Even though you can find references to Jogl 2.0 being under development, I haven't seen any hard evidence and whatever entity is developing it isn't one of the standards groups.

Why there are no standard Java bindings to OpenGL is an interesting issue with a long history.  I suspect all the Jogl development efforts will subsumed by webgl and JavaScript.
