Renting a car in Thailand for the first time

Machete
Hey everyone, planning a road trip around Thailand in a couple of months. Thinking of starting in Bangkok then driving up north to Chiang Mai. Never driven there before though, so a bit nervous about the traffic and driving on the left. Anyone done this before? Looking for advice on reliable rental companies and what to watch out for.

Thailand is pretty straightforward for rentals once you get used to the left side driving. Most tourists rent from airports or in major cities. You can find options for car hire in Thailand on comparison sites like this for example https://getrentacar.com/en-US/thailand . Plenty of other platforms around too if you search online. Just make sure you have an International Driving Permit ready.

Definitely take photos of the car before you drive off. Rental companies sometimes blame existing scratches on you. Also check that the spare tyre and jack are in the boot.
