One Legged Hopping Robot

Frank Wimberly-2
For those who saw the video this morning, I checked and found out that the sensors that provide feedback are a pair of gyroscopes:  the vertical gyro and the horizontal gyro.  I think that theoretically one would be enough but it must simplify the problem to use two.

Cindy asked what Friam had talked about this morning, so I described the one-legged hopping robot.  She thinks we're all kooks.

If I remember right, our missiles used 3 (laser gyros), one for pitch, roll, and yaw. I think the axis matters.

My friend Marc Raibert explaining what our look work led to.  Actually my involvement was very early and was limited to one paper:  Raibert, Marc H. and Francis C. Wimberly.
Tabular Control of Balance in a Dynamic Legged System.
IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man and Cybernetics 14, 1984.

We should ask for a second opinion after she’s off the meds.
