Santa Fe'ers: Does anyone know where we can get rid of old computers
and their trappings? We have lots of old computer electronics and don't know how to dispose of them. -- Owen |

I understand a variation of this was used often during the NY City sanitation workers strike a couple of decades ago. As always, it doesn't really solve the problem, it just pushes it off to someone much less likely than you to be responsible about it. Kinda like much of our foreign policy. Or you could do what I do, let it build up in your closet or shed until you can't stand it anymore, find a way to dispose of it and 10 years later kick yourself for letting it go! Like that Apple Lisa, Classic Color, NeXT, NeXT Color, etc... that I have let go of over the years! There are projects for recycling computers/peripherals to the third world, I have a nephew who spent years helping make our old junk work for schools in Africa... I'll see if I can find anything more about that... I think they asked a "donation" with each "donation", enough cash to defray the costs of transport, etc... it might have been as little as $20/computer/system. Strange economies we construct, eh? Good luck... |

Hi Owen,
Teri at Qforma gets a Tech Recycling Service box at Office Depot from time to time for us to fill it up with our electronic junk. She then takes it back to Office Depot for disposal. The Office Depot Tech Recycling Service flyer says that the items "will be crushed and raw materials extracted using a shredding process. All recycling will occur in the USA". Owen:
I'm taking a Win2000 PC, keyboard and printer down to a school in Mexico in a couple of weeks, but I'm looking for an appropriate monitor that can also be donated. Might you, or any of the gang, have such? -Tom Johnson On Jan 26, 2008 12:00 PM, Owen Densmore <owen at backspaces.net> wrote: > Santa Fe'ers: Does anyone know where we can get rid of old computers > and their trappings?
