I'm looking at using UML for programming, and wonder if any
of us have tried a UML editor? One feature that would be especially wonderful is the ability to get a diagram from an existing Java software project. I've been very impressed with "Poseidon for UML" (www.gentleware.com),
which is a commercial product that is based on the open source project ArgoUML (http://argouml.tigris.org/). The community edition is free, with very reasonably priced versions with increased functionality. I've only used the community edition. I'm not a long-time user of UML, so it would be presumptious of me to compare it with a big name product like Rational Rose, but from my limited UML experience (and with Rational Rose), I've been quite impressed with Poseidon. Oh, and it does run on Linux and OS X. // Gary -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Owen Densmore Sent: Monday, August 04, 2003 9:46 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: [FRIAM] Multi-platform UML editor? I've been using Borland's JBuilder 7.0
It seems to satisfy all your requirements rather well. You can drag and drop classes and properties to create a framework, and it writes the code. You can write code, and it automatically appears in your UML diagram. None of this ever mangles your code with strange marker comments, which is nice.
