How does this impact City of Santa Fe broadband project(s), if any are active?

Why are ISP's still a thing? It seems like there's a yen to have some kind of massive Global Web somehow.
It's 2016, and to many people have dialup muchless Gigabyte over the air. I guess think find it bogles me that every man woman and child (should they want to) can't seemless get out there Omni and say hey Omni I need help finding  SecondStreet Brewery! I hear they have KFA beer (wich they do)

Wouldn't it be aall YARR and super awsome if somehow it was possible to get past ISP's  to one big ass unified internet somehow? oO

Am I simple and think it's a load of crap to blame regutlations? oO I thought Aholery and not requiring a kick ass internet as a service from the gov was one part of the problem

From a quick look on the Web, New Mexico does not appear to be one of the 20 states that restrict municipal broadband.  So neither the FCC ruling nor the court’s ruling should have much effect. However, most of the lists of state restrictions  were posted in 2014-2015. I don’t recall any new restrictions in New Mexico since then.

lol our skeptism and well refined gusto with a dash of brovado and smart aleclry will be the end of us.
But yes this whole thing is a giant disfuntional mes from what I can tell. I suspect people are reaching a new level of dispondence.
That or just were just dicks
Next time I have a chat with a famous squid and it's worshipers I'll ask.

When Angelou consultants created an economic development plan for the city at the start of the Santa Fe Complex, this was a zinger:

Do you remember the Angelou Plan which the city paid for?  Beyond his starting his initial review with "You realize of course that your City Council is dysfunctional.", he had several great points, one of which is the lack of a "youth culture".  Basically we're forcing our kids out of town, and/or not making it pleasant for them to come to town.

And there's this classic:

We just gotta face it: we live in the third world. Its worth it for many of us and the quirks start to become, er, interesting.

Not everywhere in NM are things as bad as in SF.

I  was talking to Barry this morning at FRIAM about City Link (citylinkfiber.com) which offers fiber connectivity in ABQ. They use robots to lay fiber in sewers. Besides gigabit service, as a comparison, 100 Mbs bidirectional to the home is $50/month. John Brown of CityLink tried to put a fiber ring in SF at his expense and then sell service in Santa Fe. He spent years trying to get the city to cooperate without success.

Also, there are place around Santa Fe that took advantage of a variety of programs to improve their broadband availability> Santa Fe may wind up being a black hole in the middle of the state.

Availability of broadband in what Owen classifies as third world may surprise many of you. Many developing countries weren’t burdened by copper infrastructure and have been able to make major improvements while we’re stuck with legacy providers using their political power to prevent progress.

Re: [ SPAM ] Re: ISPs and FCC Republicans celebrate FCC’s court loss on muni broadband | Ars Technica

Ed brings up a great point about one of the (many) issues with internet in SantaFe

One Targs in the room is  that the US's way of doing internet  and all the copper lines is like running CoAx, Drunk Dwarfs, Tunnels, and Eathernet cords everywhere, then trying to use bowling balls to to push a Garbage Scouge.
Where as from what I gather china, egypt and other parts of the middle east and Germany, took one look at copper and skipped it. Hell Japan's phone  infrastructure despite being (sorfof) the same age range as America, they all but said ef that, and France at one time and the most advanced Fiber and Wireless system in the world.

SantaFe  failed in that no one stopped to say: Cheep or Free phone overhaull to gigabite speed wireless and fiber?
Then no wonder no sane skunkworks wants get 10 feet close.

(one) of the problemss with a overly dead yough coulture, a dysfuntional economy: Jobs. Fun, Joy.

For example  Cody as far as I can tell hangs with his GF and a few friends and the WedTech lunch croud wich are basically geeks. Seems to have taken to Ingress and hiking. But from what I can tell hasn't taken to just hanging downtown, though possibly to level his peekachu, to ding level 30 with his PokeMan. That's somewhat fine but realy? ah rather Eh Downtown,

Combine that with a terrible or just out right broken job system, Voke Rehab is broken and basically a mix dilusional and "well, what'lll go wrong next""
I think an a few alians with realy big ears or pointy ears might be able explain to me What on in the hell is wrong here?

Comare that to Pike Market Seattle (for example) people come they mingle there's a mix of free or cheep eats and bad ass FREE Wifi, Internet, and  a few places to sample free tea as much as you want. go to the pear and gnosh there's

How the heck can a city bigger than santa fe that's at most a meter above sea level git this shit right? (sort of)

End rant.
