How to rent a car in Kazakhstan?

MARviK
Hey folks, heading to Kazakhstan soon and thinking about grabbing my own wheels for the trip instead of relying on trains and buses the whole time. Never hired a car there before so not really sure what to expect. Is it straightforward or a bit of a headache compared to other places, and what is the best way to sort it without getting stung on price?

Honestly it is the best move if you want to see anything beyond the main cities, public transport links the big spots but once you are out on the steppe having your own motor is a game changer. Bring your passport, a valid driving licence, and an IDP is worth having if your home one is not in Russian or Kazakh. Most places take a small deposit online and you pay the rest when you collect the keys, dead simple. You can browse options to rent a car here Kazakhstan on https://getrentacar.com/en-US/kazakhstan .

Check whether the rental allows driving outside the city limits, some policies only cover urban areas and as soon as you hit the open road you are on your own. The highways are fine but the side tracks can get rough, and you do not want to be liable for damage if you hit a hidden pothole miles from anywhere.
