Fundamental Theorems

Roger Frye-4
Oliver Knill a math prof at Harvard has posted a list and description of the fundamental theorems. You can download a PDF here.

Here is the beginning:
Abstract. An expository hitchhikers guide to some theorems in mathematics. Criteria for the current list of 135 theorems are whether the result can be formulated elegantly, whether it is beautiful or useful and whether it could serve as a guide [5] without leading to panic

The list starts with paragraphs on
  1. prime factorization
  2. Pythagoras
and currently ends with 134 and 135
  • Einstein Field Equations
  • Hall Stable Marriage
The second half of the paper goes into a much longer discussion and teaching.for the Harvard Extension class E 320.

Re: Fundamental Theorems

jon zingale
This is really great! Even if only aesthetically, I appreciate seeing
Hilbert's Nullstellensatz beside Fermat's little theorem.

Another upvote for this. Fascinating.
