Everybody (or anybody), Some years back, PayPal got hacked and I cut off all contact with them. Now I am in a situation where there is something I can only buy through paypal. Is it any less safe than Amazon? I guess I am worried about losing my credit card number to the ether. Sorry for low quality question, Nick Nicholas S. I continue to use both, a lot, without a problem. On Nov 23, 2015 12:38 AM, "Nick Thompson" <[hidden email]> wrote:

Paypal has a 2-factor login, the PayPal Security Key here: It sends you a 1-time PIN vis SMS to your mobile phone. 2-factor is pretty nice but they often differ. Google has an "Authenticator" app which I prefer to SMS. Others use a physical "dongle". SMS is popular. -- Owen On Mon, Nov 23, 2015 at 2:15 AM, Tom Johnson <[hidden email]> wrote:

The short answer is: depends. Long answer is Amazon is basically as safe as one can expect. Anecdotally I've personally had some combination of paypal and a online tea and herb place lead to my credit card getting a few extra charges on it. My experience with Amazon and the few merchants i've used has been basically postive. Some things I can get a little cheaper there. (Shirts, and fuzzy winter wear stuff for example) as compared to LL-Bean or Eddie Beur (however that's spelled) For what it's worth Amazon and some of there affiliates even have a no questions asked oh-that-was-the-wrong-item (or even junk item) policy. Ocasionally it's a small 5% fee for them to pick it up a little lower from the USPS guys. (it might be a little more now no idea) On Mon, Nov 23, 2015 at 9:46 AM, Owen Densmore <[hidden email]> wrote:

I haven't had an issue with either in recent memory. Although I can't remember the last time I used PayPal. Hehehe... Probably no more risk than shopping at Target or Home Depot. I'd also recommend two-factor auth if available, and a credit card offers more protection than a debit card. On Sun, Nov 22, 2015 at 11:38 PM, Nick Thompson <[hidden email]> wrote:
