Best way to rent a car in the Philippines

Bloodbrew
Hey guys, heading to the Philippines soon and planning to explore a few different islands rather than staying in one spot. Never rented a car there before so not really sure how it all works, what documents they ask for, and whether the roads are decent enough to bother. Is it better to book ahead online or just sort something when I get there?

For island hopping having your own wheels gives you way more freedom than waiting on jeepneys and tricycles, especially if you want to reach the less touristy beaches and viewpoints. Bring your passport, a valid driving licence from your home country, and an IDP is a good idea just in case. Roads vary a lot, main highways are fine but once you head into rural areas expect bumps and the odd pothole. Browse the listings on this site to check the options and rent a car in the Philippines https://getrentacar.com/en-US/philippines .

Grab a vehicle with decent ground clearance, not necessarily a full 4x4 but something that can handle an unpaved track without scraping the bottom. Some of the nicest coves are at the end of rough roads, and a low city car just won't make it without damage.
