just seen the coolest program on children's TV here in the UK - Bamzooki.
Teams of kids design a virtual critter with the Bamzooki software (freely available at http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/games/bamzooki/) which then competes against other team' critters in various tasks (zook sumo, zook tag, all sorts of things). Excellent visualisation in the TV program too - appears that the 3d critters are actually running around on the table in front of the teams. Feels very real. Would be great fun to get an API for the above software and start playing with societies of these things.. FRIAMers:
The new Explora Science Center and Children's Museum in ABQ features a robotics lab wherein teams program their robots using computer station software and then turn around and release the bots on the physical game platform to execute physical functions. The robots are not battling each other but performing tasks, moving lego-like objects around with the winners achieving the greatest demonstrated functionality. http://www.explora.mus.nm.us I am on the board there and encourage you to visit Explora with your kids (or your parents) and perhaps sign up for a robot match with your kids while there... (let me know what you think of the overall experience). Explora is located across the street, east, from the NM Museum of Natural History on Mountain Road, just off Rio Grande Blvd. Directions: Take I-40 west from I-25 south from Santa Fe, to Rio Grande Blvd. exit south towards Central, turning left, east, on Mountain Road. Look for the Zaniest Building and that is the new Explora museum. All ages welcome from toddler to antique. Ask for a quick overview of the museum from Paul Tatter (Director), or Patrick Lopez (Asst. Director), or John Jewett (Development Director) and let them know I sent you. If you are interested in volunteering make the inquiry about how Explora can best use your talents. And enjoy! You can design "Zooks" online or download the app at http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/games/bamzooki/makeazook/. Gameware is distributing it (as well as Creatures). The real author behind the app is http://www.noisecrime.com. All done in Shockwave/Director BTW... -Steve ____________________________________________________ http://www.redfish.com [hidden email] 624 Agua Fria Street office: (505)995-0206 Santa Fe, NM 87501 mobile: (505)577-5828 |

On second look, the online Zook creator is in Shockwave and the downloadable version is in MSVC++. -S ____________________________________________________ http://www.redfish.com [hidden email] 624 Agua Fria Street office: (505)995-0206 Santa Fe, NM 87501 mobile: (505)577-5828 |
