Dear FRIAM folks:
We were extremely pleased with the turnout and participation of last year's AAAI Fall Symposium on CAS and the Threshold Effect. With over 70 participants, it turned out to be quite an exciting week! Therefore, we have decided to continue with a second event this year, to be held November 11th - 13th. Planning is already underway and we are currently preparing our proposal to the AAAI.
This year's proposed theme will be ... Complex Adaptive Systems and Resilience: Views from the Natural and Social Sciences. In some disciplines, this concept may be more commonly referred to as "robustness," "homeostasis," or "basins of attraction." But whatever the term, we will be exploring the common phenomenon of complex systems that exhibit the ability to persist in, and adapt to, a changing environment. As with last year's symposium, we will solicit papers and proposals that cover a wide variety of domains, in order to continue our efforts to build a community of researchers from across disciplines.
As part of the proposal process, AAAI asks that we provide a list of folks who may be interested in attending this event. As before, you don't have to commit at this time ... simply reply back via email if you would like to participate in any way, or simply be kept abreast of developments as we continue the planning process.
Please include your name and current affiliation so that we can list that information in our proposal. Thanks, everyone, and I look forward to hearing from you. And feel free to pass this along to folks you think may be interested!
Sincerely, Ted Carmichael ============================================================ FRIAM Applied Complexity Group listserv Meets Fridays 9a-11:30 at cafe at St. John's College lectures, archives, unsubscribe, maps at http://www.friam.org |

Sorry about that ... it will be held in Arlington, VA, at the Westin Arlington Gateway. More information about the symposia can be found on AAAI's website. We'll have our website up probably in the next week or so.
