I thought I'd followup on Professor West's pointer to my VSA project. Thanks for the post, I'm glad to see that it drew some attention. I started out with simply trying to create a software implementation of the Viable System Model (VSM), the model for autonomous systems developed by Stafford Beer.
I've been testing it with a simple heater/thermostat simulation and a securities portfolio. For now, it's all in Smalltalk. Most of the work has been on the autonomics in systems 1, 2 and 3. Systems 4 and 5 are still pretty much placeholders for application specific planning and policy making logic.
I thought I'd reach out to the list and solicit suggestions for other application areas. I've been thinking about simulating a government entity or other kinds of human organizations. I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
