** tomorrow ** Demo Series: Friday May 19th 3p-5: Drew Trujillo

Stephen Guerin
** reminder, tomorrow ***

NM Visualization Demo Series
upcoming lecture

SPEAKER: Drew Trujillo (aka Dr Woohoo)

WHEN: Friday, May 19th, 3p - 4:30p
        light snacks will be available
group may self-organize for drinks and appetizers afterwards

WHERE: Intel Innovation Center, Rio Rancho (see directions below)

ABSTRACT:
Color Analytics inherits properties from statistical analysis with the
objective of visualizing large data sets to gain a better understanding of
the color palette of the object being analyzed.  In The Mod: Color Analytics
<http://www.inthemod.com/inthemod.html>  is dedicated to understanding the
color palettes and hidden relationships of (in)famous paintings by using new
features in Flash 8 as well as a custom library of Color Analytics. After
reducing the color palettes from hundreds of thousands of colors down to
several hundred, the data is visualized in a 2d HSV color space and the
palettes are downloadable for you in formats compatible with Flash,
Processing and After Effects.

The presentation will focus on the inspiration and evolution of the Color
Analytic software and the results it has rendered - as told through the eyes
of hundreds of thousands of pixels.  It is at the pixel level that all of
the drama and chaos of their world unfolds... and with the help of the
software, it is my hope that we can discover the harmony and a greater
understanding of the color palettes of these well-known paintings through
the use of data visualization techniques.

The second part of the presentation will focus on analyzing audio properties
(base, mid, treble, amplitude, frequency, custom Cue Points of a measure(s))
via hacks/custom scripts in After Effects Pro 7, exporting the keyframe data
out as an XML file and importing/parsing and mapping that data to the
properties of MovieClips and BitmapData Objects in Flash 8 using custom
Flash Extensions - some of which are not publicly available.

BIO:
Drew Trujillo, aka Dr. Woohoo (translation: serious fun), is fascinated -
maybe even obsessed - with the idea of twisting, stretching and distorting
how we express ourselves creatively by using the digital tools we have
available to us or creating new ones. To Woohoo, creating new applications,
hacks or solutions to problems that hinder creativity is his way of  playing
with digital silly-putty. Woohoo is currently in pursuit of: forming a
tighter two-way relationship between After Effects and Flash; creating an
Visual Effects Expert System that can generate over 16 million unique motion
visual effects with the ability to learn; creating In The Mod: Color
Analytics which analyzes and finds relationships between the color palettes
of (in)famous paintings; brushes.paints.stencils., an application that
emulates natural media, records the paint sessions to an xml file, attaches
unusual behaviors to the paint drops and either plays them back in real-time
or renders them out for broadcast tv, film or print.

Wow -- I can't believe I didn't see this. After Effects and Flash,
sounds like it must have been a very interesting presentation.
