Probability and Statistics with R
Michael Akritas, Pennsylvania State University
For many years I have taught a one-semester probability and statistics course aimed mostly at undergraduate students in engineering and natural sciences (as well as some math education majors and grad students from various disciplines). After experimenting with some other software packages, I settled on using R for these students because of its wide use in research, increasing use in industry, and wide availability (it is freeware). This talk will focus on strategies that I have used in this class, both in terms of organizing the content and in incorporating the use of R.
