It enumerated other ideas TR has come across, one being Big Data is over-rated.

Basically the publishers fell in love with the potential of "apps", but then bumped into their downsides. And no surprise, HTML5 is taking hold instead.
From this article, I'd guess the main breakthrough will be when "ebooks" are more than just digital copies of paper books. In the magazine genre, Flipboard and other aggregators are quite successful. And, yes, textbooks do hold some promise as well, but certainly not via Apple. I'd like to see if Amazon could be successful, but less draconian.
