Do any of you know of any published ABMs that run inside a "scaffold" (a
construct  prespecified to observe and kick in when a macro behavior to
emerge from the micro behavior) and then, once the macro behavior has
been observed, some or all of the simulation is replaced with a higher
level abstraction?

I was thinking someone did something like this with TranSims at one
point; but I can't find anything.
