I have to admit to planning an "escape" if things get too bad here.  I
keep my passport up to date and seriously consider where I'd like to
live .. where are the creative hot spots.  So far for me its europe,
and in particular, Italy although I think most of europe is fine.

I think the pendulum is going to swing away from the US far faster than
people believe.  Consider just how fast it has taken the good jobs to
migrate away from the US.  And europe is working on university synergy
projects that reduce the overhead of maintaining universities and
designing multi-country research projects.

A recent scare for me was CBS refusing to air a simple 30 seconds ad
against the mounting deficit:
        http://www.moveon.org/cbs/ad/
This was going to be on the superbowl half-time show but was censored.
I'm worried.

Well, CBS is primarily a business. Perhaps they thought that they would lose
revenue from their customers after that whole "Hitler" allusion from
moveon.org

I suppose CBS realized that American citizens vote primarily (or at least
more sincerely) with their dollars first (by choosing which stations they
watch), and then with their political views second. Actions speak louder
than words, and successful business is all about successful actions.

Funding for start-ups

Dr. Richard C. Cassin
A similar event is held every year in Albuquerque by TVC (Technology Ventures
Corporation). There simply are not a sufficient number of viable tech companies in Santa
Fe to justify holding such an event here. The key word for investors is "promising", and
in that regard, Santa Fe comes up extremely short. Indeed, finding "promising companies"
(from the investor viewpoint) in ALL of New Mexico is a daunting task for the TVC folks.
They typically find 15-18 purportedly "promising" firms each year, and even a few of those
are questionable.
