Visualisation
in Archaeology

2008 WorkshopVisualisation and Knowledge Formation
23-24 October 2008
University of Southampton

Call for Participation
Researchers and practitioners from across disciplines are invited to submit proposals for papers to be presented at the first Visualisation in Archaeology Workshop at the University of Southampton on the 23rd and 24th of October 2008. Funded by English Heritage, the 2008 Workshop stands as one component of the three year, inter-university Visualisation in Archaeology (VIA) project which aims to explore the philosophical and historical dimensions of, and the future possibilities of the visual representation of archaeological knowledge.

Participants from any discipline are encouraged to contribute in order to create an open forum for knowledge exchange and a fertile environment for discussion relating to the topic of Visualisation and Knowledge Formation. Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit papers on original work from within archaeology although contributions are encouraged from other disciplines which address and inform key issues in the context of the following sub-themes:

            - Where is visualisation in archaeology today?
            - How does visualisation communicate?
            - How did visualisation in archaeology develop?
            - Seeing a way forward?

Within these sessions, papers are sought which address innovative results of current research and/or innovative means of engaging various audiences through visualisation. The papers will form the focus of two days of interdisciplinary debate and analysis.

Abstract Submission Deadline
Please submit a 300-word abstract by Friday, 25 July, 2008 to [hidden email]

For further details on the programme and provisions for the workshop, please refer to the attached overview, and visit the recently-launched VIA website: http://www.viarch.org.uk

We look forward to your submissions --
