Experts Versus Elites
https://www.overcomingbias.com/2021/02/experts-versus-elites.html

As always Hanson's propositions smell off to me somehow. This post makes some good points about specialists/bottom and generalists/top and panels/off-domain vs. presentations/on-domain. But there seems to be something lurking between the lines ... some kind of "offended stance" ... like he feels he doesn't get enough adulation for his contributions ... perhaps the irritating grain that might later become the *pearl* of a populist position (where the elite are all corrupt and need to be taken down a notch). I can definitely see him becoming a member of the Dark Enlightenment, if he's not already. Regardless, there's good meat on the bone if you're willing to gnaw at it.

Re: populism, again

Marcus G. Daniels
As the apotheosis of her field, a Nobel Laureate is not just an expert.  An expert is often a powerless person of average intelligence.  Someone that toils away learning about this or that in a constrained context.

Becoming an elite in Hanson's definition satisfies another predicate:  They worked the system to gain the influence they have, so people are naturally interested in them because their competence is self-evident.
