I never managed to get very good at it, but I've seen awesome work
done in it. (Flight404 for example.)

They have a library giving you Apple's Core Image, which is pretty
fun. The site describes at as like having a Python interface to
Photoshop. It may partially replace Pshop for me, I'm on el cheapo
Photoshop Elements and Nodebox definitely beats that for many use
cases (although not line drawing).
