Steve Guerin will be speaking tomorrow Saturday Sept 17th, 2 - 4 pm
for my Highlands university class - held at the SFCC campus on
Richards. All Friamers are welcome to join.
Steve's talk will flesh out a couple of themes in one of our class
books, Steven Johnson's
Where Good Ideas Come From: A Natural
History of Innovation. Johnson points to four qualities of
environments that foster innovation: connectivity and density (as in
cities and the web), the exploration of adjacent possibilities
(innovations whether biological or man-made are rarely radical but
more likely to re-arrange existing bits and pieces and modest
modifications) and open-sharing of information. Steve's talk will
look more closely at the last two and how they actually work out 'on
the ground' within the context of business and money-making.
2pm in Room 317. Main building, look for the cafeteria, go
downstairs, walk past atrium, and first hallway on your left. 317.
