etymology of mancunian

Scholand, Andrew J
A side conversation at Friday's meeting centered on the origin of the term
'mancunian' (denoting a native of Manchester, England).

Robert hypothesized that the phrasing might be traced back to the latin form
of the city's name.  This appears to be the case, as dictionary.com states
"From Latin Mancunium, Manchester, of Celtic origin. "

Cheers,
Andy
