defeat vs surrender

HighlandWindsLLC Miller
I agree with a statement by Robert Lancaster that it is important to stand up against things you believe are serious infringements of basic rights .. like privacy. As he said, I think quoting Churchhill, "losing the fight is only defeat, not fighting is surrender."
Impossible odds can be just temporary illusions, it is always difficult to say. Plus -- isn't the emergent argument that which argues for the existence of fringe extremeists that don't fit in and how they help slowly change the entire pattern over time? Plus, sometimes shooting one arrow into the middle of a tightly held position that is anti all you believe to be right or correct, can help disintegrate that integral position which is often held too tightly due to its wrongness.

I would hope respect for the right to privacy is not a fringe extreme opinion.
