Greetings, all --
As a native of Richmond, Virginia, I have empathy for the plight that my
fellow Richmonders face. The mantra, "adapt or die", while straightforward
enough, is a bitter pill for many to swallow. The joke about us Virginians is
that it takes ten to change a light bulb - one to do it, and nine to talk about
how good the old one was. (One could easily say the same about New
Mexicans, mayhap.)
I don't know how to transform a mindset of "why can't I have what I've
always had" into "how can I prepare for the next thing" - it's tough enough for
me, and I've had every advantage our society offers.
Excuse my speculations.
