Our next Winter's Read will be on the Complex's Ambient Computing
Project.
Time: Wed 11:30-12:30 @ the Complex (632 Agua Fria)
Steve: Shout out if this needs further elaboration.
All: I'm sending this to a wide audience due to its interest to many
of us.
The Ambient Computing project grew out of the work on the Sandtable
for fire modeling, and the realization that many technologies are
arriving on the scene that allow much more interesting and natural
human-computer interactions:
- The Wii remote for remotely controlling computer interactions
- Inexpensive cameras and projectors combining into stunning computing
models
- Seeing in the infrared for invisible camera input
- The Z-Cam
- LED based projectors
- The TUIO (Touch User Interface Object) standard
- CoverFlow on a wall
.. and many, many more.
Steve will present an overview of the project and its goals, along
with a clear exposition on the basic technologies being used, and
hopefully how they can be easily integrated into Computing At The
Complex.
A satisfying outcome would be the beginning of the software
architecture for the various components within Ambient Computing,
along with a web accessible set of links to the rapidly growing
activities and tools in the Ambient community.
Note: This is laying aside for a week our discussion on the set-
theoretic formalization of Agent Based Modeling.
