The dangers of too much learning

Carl Tollander-2
In reply to this post by Robert Holmes
It seems to be a thermodynamic thing; the generated heat can't
escape fast enough.  Actually, from personal experience, it's
part of a punctuated equilibrium effect; things do come back
together again after awhile. Until the next time.

Somewhat disconcerting for any unprepared observers, though.
Apologies in advance....

Nope, Dede was right. Collins English Dictionary: "Pierian Spring: n. a
sacred fountain in Pieria, in Greece, fabled to inspire those who drank from
it."

There isn't a word pyrrhean but there is pyrrhic: it's a metrical foot of
two short or unstressed syllables (named after its inventor Purrhikhos).
Also, there's a Pyrrhic victory, where the victor's losses are as great as
those of the defeated (named after Pyrrhus, king of Epirus, who defeated the
Romans at Asculum in 279 BC but suffered heavy losses).

Oh dear, I can feel my brain heating up...

The dangers of too much learning

Joe Spinden
Mea culpa.

I just knew Pyrrhus & did a quick web search finding the same quote with the
spelling I suggested.  Thinking more, there's no good reason to connect that
quote (apparently from Alexander Pope) to the Pyrrhus of pyrrhic victory
fame.

Looking on the bright side:  obviously no danger of MY brain overheating.
