These maps that are getting popular just might be the basis for agent
modeling's landscapes! http://nytimes.com/imagepages/2005/04/11/national/ 20050411catholics_graphic.html -- Owen Owen Densmore - http://backspaces.net - http://redfish.com - [hidden email] |
I wish the NYT had told us its definition of "Catholic." [Hey, did you hear
that the Pope died?] Note that the IAJ took up this issue last week, suggesting that sometimes IoP (Ink-on-Paper) versions are a superior tool compared to multimedia presentations. See www.analyticjournalism.com entry for "Sometimes I-o-P (Ink-on-Paper) IS better" http://analyticjournalism.myblogsite.com/blog/_archives/2005/4/6/558822.html The IAJ link above takes you to the NYT's cartograms, a concept which also might be tied to agent modeling, making the cnx between theory and take-it-to-the-street reality. -t ============================================================= J. The National Atlas of the United States has hundreds of maps like that.
They are in color and are beautiful. The library at the Bell Labs location that I worked at (in 1979) had a copy and I used to enjoy looking at it. Frank --- Frank C. Yes, out of print and used copies are not cheap: $700-1275.
