I have long suspected that the mantra "the U.S. is the world's leader in R&D, education and entrepreneurship" was grasping at slim straws of hope, yet another indication of American's cultural arrogance.  This article would seem to support my suspicions, I'm afraid.  True, one or two data points do not make a trend, but ....
