If you're not a Mac user, delete now!
I've started using Python for shell scripting. Also, on my Mac, I've
started using the TextMate editor, far better than BBEdit IMHO. I
wondered if it had good support for Python, and started looking for
tutorials etc.
I found this really great screencast of python usage and textmate.
http://macromates.com/screencast/python_part_1.movPart of my interest was that I really don't like IDEs in general,
they're way to flabby and ugly. TextMate proves to be a nice
tradeoff: its "just a text editor" but with very nice syntax oriented
features.
If you're interested in using it, I really recommend looking at the
screencast, with TextMate by your side. Stop the movie every time it
makes a new program element, and duplicate it in your version of
TextMate. It REALLY helps! The TAB and ESC keys are very "smart".
I suspect I may grudgingly move on to Eclipse, or other more IDE
program, but for now, just a refreshingly nice text editor is a
breath of fresh air!
