THURPM - end/beginning of an era! Quark Bar, Los Alamos 5:00 PM 1/10/08

Steve Smith
Fellow FRIAMers and other friends -

You are all cordially invited to join us at the Quark Bar in Los
Alamos (1789 Central Avenue) on Thursday 1/10/2008 for the first ever
meeting of THURPM.

We'll be drinking beer, wine and spirits rather than coffee, however.
With any luck and enough participation, we will make this a regular
event to complement FRIAM itself... all that coffee at FRIAM will
maybe help with the Math hangovers acquired at THURPM!

As many of you know, this Thursday, January 10, 2008 is my last day as
LANL chattel.

Literally 27 years (to the day after I arrived at LANL) I've been
sprung!

It is also the first day of the rest of my career.

I am not alone, some 450 other survivors have fled from the ship along
with me, perhaps a few of you on this list!  Dave Modl, another LANL
survivor and fellow Visualization Scientist has joined me in this
flying leap into empty space.

We probably aren't quite ready to give all the details of our next
plans, but at the very least they involve work with WorldScape NM,
RedFish group and the Santa Fe Complex, and UNM HPC/ArtsLab.  They
also include plans to build a commercial Visualization Facility at the
Los Alamos Research Park (aka Motorola building, on the floor above
Hot Rocks Cafe, in close proximity to the Synergy Center and, the
Institute for Advanced Study and the New Mexico Consortium).

Good on ya...

Just to add flavor to the pot... Jim Smith might drop by... we can
pretend I'm going to work with you and watch him turn white?
