StepItUp2007

Mark Ericson
It occurs to me that Saturday's events are a wonderful example of
at least
a 'rising' mentality in society, similar to dominance - subdominance in
genetics, except fluid, perhaps the most forceful expression of the
process of the mentality of conservation achieving dominance (not
fully, yet, of course) over the mentality of waste;
the development of mass foresight perspective, social action to change
society's course in anticipation of doom should the course remain
unchanged, and arguably in this case a more developed expression than
previous anti-war or anti-nuclear events.
It is interesting to me as an articulation of 'positive' humanity
development and gives reason for hope. The role of the internet in
setting this up is also interesting in analogy to the development of a
nervous system in an embryo. Consider a prepubescent humanity, perhaps
one in later stage blastula formation, transitioning to true
differentiation in support of the whole organism, inexperienced with
the dimensions of its own growth, aided in its survival expression by
the introspective capabilities afforded by the technologies it has
invented.
RB Fuller used to say that prior to the moon landing all children would
wonder if 'we' could ever go there, and post-landing all would know
that we had. Similarly, since the famous image of Earth from Apollo,
and the countless earth images since, the percentage of the population
who can not close their eyes and 'see' the earth as a spherical system
in space continues to diminish. Does this not influence the behavior of
'piles of cells who can call themselves human beings' to link their own
survival (and their DNA's survival) to the survival of the natural
systems that sustains them. I know it has mine, and perhaps tomorrow's
crowds will reveal many others who have been similarly influenced.
Just throwing this out there.
