Stanford AI & ML: starts Monday

The Stanford classes are starting monday next week.
http://www.ml-class.org/course/class/index

The ML page started a week ago, letting folks have a head start.  The three units (Intro, Linear Regression w/ 1 variable, and Linear Algebra review) were fun to follow.  The videos have pauses that ask a question or two having to do with the current topic .. and let you know if you're "getting it".  VERY low key for folks concerned that it will be too hard.  It won't be.  And Octave is being used, a free download.

The AI class also started early, with several links to the Kahn Academy .. for some linear algebra and some probability.

Both are HIGHLY interactive with forums and twitter, along with interactive videos and quizes.  Both stress that this is very informal and non-competitive: you can take quizes multiple times to make sure you master the material.

Both have two "tracks": basic where you watch the videos and answer the related questions, and advanced where you take quizes and submit projects. Letters of Achievement are given to those who complete the classes.

This is truly a new approach to on-line learning.  Do look into them if you have any interest in either topic.
