Social Networks and memory

I had the pleasure of doing some extensive planning work for  
sixdegrees.  Although that's not to say their demise was my doing.  
Classic case of timing being everything:  they reached unprecedented  
subscription and usage levels, but at that point no one knew how to  
monetize it.  And that's despite a sale to what was then called Fox  
Interactive (which also went down smoking before MySpace was a glint  
in Rupert Murdoch's eye; timing, timing, timing...)

BTW, perhaps more importantly, I think they also invented viral  
marketing, because that's how they reached those levels and I don't  
think anyone else was doing it at the time.
