The JavaCar project used smartcards (java cards) and java rings to
store profiles of drivers for the car .. to authenticate, so to speak,
the driver to the car.
It was weird programming these critters. The cards have very little
memory and used at the time a sort of hex programming style. The rings
had more memory, so we tended to favor them. The cards did have an
interesting feature: you could store multiple "cards" on a single
physical card. So you could use a cardlette, I think they were called,
for the java car, and another for your door access at Sun.
