You have to love that classic British art of understatement.

Re: Scary event at Japanese Nuclear Power Plant

Carl Tollander
BBC stories on this seem to have retained a modicum of rationality.  Other google sources are mostly worthless.

The live coverage (press conferences, etc) is here:  http://www.ustream.tv/channel/japanhelpchannel  though I'm afraid my japanese is not good enough to translate.   Much of it needs no translation.

Supposedly one can tell what the status of the reactor is by the kinds of isotopes being released.   Cesium, not so good, indicating core damage.   Short lived stuff, expected, given that they are flooding it with sea water and will have to release pressure periodically over the next couple days.

Then there’s the American art of overstatement.  On the CNN web site it says, “Pump system caused nuclear blast.”
