Are there many of us with a Note? I got a chance to play with one at Friam The Meeting and I gotta say a "phablet" (phone+tablet) certainly seemed more interesting than I had thought. Even the stylus wasn't nuts.
Anyone want to comment on their use of one?

I've had a Note 8 for about a year, but I didn't go for the cellular-radio option (I use an iPhone). I chose the 8 over the 10 due primarily to weight, and the ease with which I could hold it one-handed while writing on it with the stylus. My use case is mostly S-Note for diagramming and general note-taking. There is a slight lag in response to pen gestures, but I'm reasonably happy with it, to the extent that I use it. YMMV. Dorothy has one, but she doesn't begin to utilize all that it has to offer. I, however, have played with it and find it impressive though expensive. -tj ============================================ Tom Johnson Institute for Analytic Journalism -- Santa Fe, NM USA 505.577.6482(c) 505.473.9646(h) Twitter: jtjohnson On Sat, Aug 9, 2014 at 6:47 PM, Owen Densmore <[hidden email]> wrote:

I have a Note 3. (Note 8 and 10 must be a different series.) The Note 3 is a phablet. I wanted the largest phone I could get that would fit into my pocket. These days it's the Note 3. It has the obvious advantages: you can use it as both a phone and a tablet. It's fairly camped as a tablet, but it's fine for most small tasks like email, web browsing, etc. Besides, when I want to do real work, I use my desktop computer. I wouldn't use a tablet for serious work in any case. I find it to be the optimal choice.

This thread prompts me to wish that the next big thing in phones/whatever other tech would be called the Clue™ - think about it, how cool would it be to hear "Do you have a Clue?" or "For my birthday, I think you should give me a Clue." or "Ah yes, the later models do tend to need percussive maintenance; for this one, the ClueBat™ will do perfectly."?

@Arlo Oddly I was thinking about that. I don't know who some companies hire to do product testing. They need to get Klingons in to do real testing. I'm personaly not at all enamered with a touchscreen- and zero mechanical keys---maybe a outfit that improves on these kind of things that isn't aiming at the Hipstermarket can see some of the god awful UX choices that get aproved
I have a equally amusing picture of the low key word-of-mouth-only advertising: "Yeah man I took my Winderz box in to get a Clue" (friend: howd that go?) "Oh ot works great now!" (Small print: I'm not a fan of Windows because it seems to be a inodarntly tricky to find gremlins-might be mediocre for gaming, but that's about it it seems) On Sat, Aug 9, 2014 at 11:39 PM, Arlo Barnes <[hidden email]> wrote:

There are two Notes series: the tablets – the 8, 10 and 12 – and the phablets – currently the Note 3, with the 4 due next month. The only real difference between the two lines – besides screen size, obviously – is that the phablet has full phone functionality, and the tablets do not. Both series have Wacom digitizers for pen support. For those unfamiliar with Wacom, it’s the digital artists tool of choice, with 1,000+ pressure levels that allow you to imitate pretty much any drawing or painting tool; for example, a calligraphy brush. All have fast processors, gobs of RAM, and gorgeous screens. As to the Note phablet specifically, I’ve found it to be a game changer. My daughter has the Note 2, which led to me buying the 3. Older smart phones seemed to me to be phones with computer functionality tacked on. You always had to be concerned with battery life, and the screens were such that you only used them if you didn’t have something better at hand. The Note changes that. The battery lasts one to two DAYS with all battery saving stuff turned off; and I’ve had it for a year. Never have even turned the battery saving features on; its pointless. As you saw, the screen is big and gorgeous. I often read on it in my Kindle app. Camera is very good for stills, and shoots 4k video -- !! – though there’s always the question of whether you have anything that can DISPLAY 4K. Rumor has it the Note 4 will have a 4K screen – the 3 is 1080 HD – optical image stabilization for the camera, etc. Some analysts think that these bigger phones are what have stalled the tablet market. I used to have an iPad mini; gave it to the wife after I got this phone. YMMV. cjf From: Friam [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Owen Densmore Are there many of us with a Note?
