Some (US) people on this list with 'kids' (or may be even grandkids)
might find this a worthy cause. I signed a petition to The United States Senate which says: "Last year Congress lowered interest rates for new student loans, but didn't help people stuck with older student loans at 6, 8, even 10% interest rates or higher. Please pass the Bank on Students Emergency Loan Refinancing Act. People should be able to refinance their student loans to today's lower rates. " Will you sign this petition? Can someone give some insight on Scotland and Englands free education? I'm also under the impression that in addition to free education they have seem way for caligiet career to be 'Reel World' work. That is to say what you might do as a Job is your education. Minimizing busy work and blending Theoery and Practicum. I I'm asking as I wonder what it would take for there to be a seemless flow between academics and work. And thus your schooling would be free. I'm leaving Monday for two weeks of hiking with my granddaughter in England and in the Scotish Hiighlands. I'll see what I can find out.

I'm sorry to report that free education ended in England in 1998. Tuition cost 1000 pounds after that, but it rose over the intervening years to a maximum of 9000 pounds and the majority of higher education institutions charge the maximum. After devolution in 1999, the Scottish Parliament decided to continue with tuition-free college for its students. But the costs are such that this probably will not continue---especially if the Scots vote to leave the United Kingdom in the September vote.
