<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; I'm certainly interested in having ABM "grow up", so to speak. I've
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; been working with the Value Network working group at SFI:
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; http://valuenetwork.sourceforge.net/
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; http://backspaces.net/SCSim/
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; and part of the work has been looking at validating models. One
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; approach taken by the Argonne folks was to implement the model in
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; multiple standard environments .. called "docking"
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; http://backspaces.net/SCSim/BeerDock.pdf
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; However, these are more low level apprroaches: how to be sure the
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; algorithms are robust and repeatable. Deeper questions lurk: how to
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; build models that reflect the situation being modeled accurately.
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; I'd love to play!

<DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt;

Hello everyone!

The evaluation of simulation models has been a major topic of concern =
for
the fields of engineering and operations research. Some of this
work/literature might be of relevance to those engaged with the question =
of
how to evaluate a particular type of simulation model, namely, ABMs.

Somewhat curiously, the evaluation of ABM models has become a major =
topic
within the field of sociology (at least in the United States): an =
example of
this discussion -- and a good paper on the role of and evaluation of ABM
models -- is:

>From  <http://soc.annualreviews.org/cgi/content/full/28/1/143> Factors =
to
Actors: Computational Sociology and Agent-Based Modeling=20
Michael W. Macy and Robert Willer=20
Annual Review of Sociology, Vol. 28, 2002

It is a discussion that is also engaging economists.

Jose

  <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; I'm certainly interested in having ABM "grow up", =
so to=20
  speak. I've=20
  <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; been working with the Value Network working group =
at SFI:=20

  <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; http://valuenetwork.sourceforge.net/=20
  <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; http://backspaces.net/SCSim/=20
  <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; and part of the work has been looking at =
validating=20
  models. One=20
  <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; approach taken by the Argonne folks was to =
implement the=20
  model in=20
  <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; multiple standard environments .. called =
"docking"=20
  <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; http://backspaces.net/SCSim/BeerDock.pdf=20
  <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt;=20
  <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; However, these are more low level apprroaches: =
how to be=20
  sure the=20
  <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; algorithms are robust and repeatable. Deeper =
questions=20
  lurk: how to=20
  <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; build models that reflect the situation being =
modeled=20
  accurately.=20
  <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt;=20
  <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; I'd love to play!=20

  <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; I like the idea of a working group to start=20

  <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; As to how this could proceed, CRISP-DM and =

clients.=20
  Ultimately, both=20

(through the=20

  <DIV></DIV>&gt; &gt; &gt; KADS attracted a huge pile of funds - the =
program=20
