Hi all!
I have a nexus 5. Other than my grumbles about touchscreens it works pretty well. It's version 6.x has realy bad reception. That doesn't seem normal for Seattle, where you can can get open WiFi almost anywhere. I checked google and didn't see much about GPS being wonky. ============================================================ FRIAM Applied Complexity Group listserv Meets Fridays 9a-11:30 at cafe at St. John's College to unsubscribe http://redfish.com/mailman/listinfo/friam_redfish.com |
Have you tried flashing different radio firmware? You mention wifi and GPS. Are you having trouble with one or both of those? Are you also having trouble with the cell data connection? Hi Glen thanks for the help! Radio Firmware: Is that even possible with the Moto/Google's Phones? I know you change ROM's and CynaGen-MUI However those are spelled are super popular. WiFi and GPS: Yeah that's why I asked. My GPS and WiFi reception seems flakey at best. CellData: Acording to the Data use logs it bounces between 3 and 4g. It seems to do pretty well with 3G. That's when I thought that can't be right. Google Maps, pokemon go and spotify are basically just using 3G, and that's in the middle of downtown Seattle Washington, where you can see all sorts of cell towers cleverly dressed up. That's why thought ok somethings wrong here, and I simply don't know what. Last night before posting the question I tried to looking on the nexus forums. Quite a few people have issues audio quality and it getting to hot. On Fri, Aug 19, 2016 at 7:50 AM, ┣glen┫ <[hidden email]> wrote:

I can only assume so, cf http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/development/rom-android-6-0-0-mra58k-flashable-zip-t3218315 I don't know anything about Nexus 5. But presumably, all of the phones in the Nexus line are more manipulable than, say, a non-Nexus Motorola phone. I don't know which version of android you're on. There's some flexibility with which radio firmware you can use, I think. If you recently upgraded everything, the perhaps you can just flash the previous radio image (if you can find it). Otherwise, you should be able to reflash the stock image, then just flash the system, without the new radio. The last time I flashed only radio images was with my HTC G1 ... a looong time ago. 8^) So, take it with a grain of salt. -- ␦glen? ============================================================ FRIAM Applied Complexity Group listserv Meets Fridays 9a-11:30 at cafe at St. John's College to unsubscribe http://redfish.com/mailman/listinfo/friam_redfish.com

Quik follow up- AHA I'm on android version 6.0.1.x It looks like you might have called it Glen. It might be possible to help a Nexus 5's radio by using a older version of the radio's software. There's claims that also helps battery life a bit to since it'l more elegantly choose between cleaner frquencies and amplitudes. On Fri, Aug 19, 2016 at 11:04 AM, ┣glen┫ <[hidden email]> wrote:

I downloaded an app called OpenSignal. It is fairly good at troubleshooting problems. My hypothesis is that sometimes you connect to an Antenna with a bad data signal but a good voice signal. Cody Smith On Fri, Aug 19, 2016 at 11:53 AM, Gillian Densmore <[hidden email]> wrote:
