I found this interesting quote in a book from John D. Barrow
named "The Artful Universe Expanded" (Oxford University Press, 2005)
"Music creates order out of chaos; for rhythm imposes unanimity upon
the divergent; melody imposes continuity upon the disjointed, and
harmony imposes compatibility upon the incongruous." (Yehudi Menuhin)
Is it complexity (=unity in diversity) that makes music interesting ?
Music consists of the three basic elements rhythm, melody and harmony
and is in fact closely related to order in chaos:
rhythm means to impose regularity on irregularity,
melody means to create continuity in discontinuity,
harmony means to find consonance in dissonance.
