Good morning,
My name is Nicholas Thompson and I will be in Santa Fe on Sabbatical until June. I have a nominal visitor's appointment in Anthropology at UNM. I am working on books, papers, and grants AND trying to pull together some fresh ideas on social complexity and communication.
Having learned of the the insularity of SFI, I am overjoyed to learn of this group and its interests. I am interested in the evolution of social complexity, animal and human communication, and in particular human crying and whining. I have a pretty good grip on David Sloan Wilson's trait group selection theory which lies at the base of Multi-Level Selection theory.
Sad to say, Friam's meeting day corresponds to the one day where there are colloquia and meetings at UNM relevant to my interests. It occurs to me that if you all have coffee on on Fridays, then SOME of you may have coffee on OTHER days as well, and perhaps we could meet and you could bring me up to speed on what Friam has been talking about. Or for lunch.... today..... come to think of it.
Look forward to meeting with some or all of you at some point,
NIck
