Meeting of "Physical Friam"

Frank Wimberly-2
The Coffee Shop at St. John's will be open Friday until 2:00pm.  However our customary meeting format violates the recommendations of every health official that I have heard.  I suggest we skip it pending the resolution of the health crisis. Last week there were only 5 people present.

We could probably try to mount a virtual meeting.  I have Zoom on my phone but I've never used it.  Is it worth trying to do this?  Our usual meetings  fission into multiple small conversations.  I assume that isn't possible with online meeting tools.

Re: Meeting of "Physical Friam"

Marcus G. Daniels

There is a 40 minute time limit on the free version of Zoom for three or more participants.   Microsoft teams is another one or GotoMeeting.

ZOOM, which I have often used, would/could bring in non-santa fesanios. That would be fun. And, if small confabs develop, they could spin out to Google Hangouts, which seems relatively underused. (ZOOM, bcs it's so good, is under a bit of stress, I hear.)

When the 40-min limit is reached, just resend an invitation to the the same list. Might take a couple minutes to sort out, but that has worked in the past.

Redfish has paid Zoom and Join.me accounts with no time limit and recording capability.  I will send out an invite and can make Frank, Steve Smith, or someone else host.

As an aside, jitsi.org and talky.io are good free versions that we use for small meetings. We also use Google Hangout. Skype and Slack video conferencing for small team meetings.  Not sure on scale of audience they can handle.

Frank, I use Zoom all the time, and even more frequently now.  It's also great for sharing text and documents.

Re: Meeting of "Physical Friam"

I can send the zoom invitation to the FRIAM list, I think.

Great.  Thanks, Stephen.  I think the host should be an experienced Zoom user, such as Tom, Steve, Merle or some other volunteer.

Subject: [FRIAM] Meeting of "Physical Friam"

The Coffee Shop at St. John's will be open Friday until 2:00pm.  However our customary meeting format violates the recommendations of every health official that I have heard.  I suggest we skip it pending the resolution of the health crisis. Last week there were only 5 people present.

We could probably try to mount a virtual meeting.  I have Zoom on my phone but I've never used it.  Is it worth trying to do this?  Our usual meetings  fission into multiple small conversations.  I assume that isn't possible with online meeting tools.
