An update and prod for folks interested in Machine Learning at the Complex. Steve sent out earlier message to Friam on the Stanford Machine Learning class that is a new experiment on open education:
http://ml-class.org/ The class will be world wide, and free. And if you finish you'll get a certificate of achievement. 43,874 people have signed up as of this morning!
If you think you'd like to attend, watch the two videos on the page above and check the FAQ there. The class will start October 10, and end on December 16. We may also have some UNM support that Ed is looking into.
If you haven't hit delete yet, you can check out some of the prior class notes and videos: Lots of info there. The notes alone are a 142 page book! -- Owen ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: <[hidden email]> Date: Thu, Aug 18, 2011 at 12:15 PM Subject: Stanford Machine Learning Class To: [hidden email] Dear Owen Densmore, Thank you for signing up for Machine Learning. We will contact you with more information when the course becomes available. To expand on what Owen wrote about the possibility of having UNM participate, the idea is build wither an independent study or special topics class around the Stanford course. The discussions thus far are based on the notion that the credit course would be involve a significant ML project of interest to the Complex and UNM. Anyone wanting credit would have to pay UNM tuition, either as a regular or non-degree student.

I'd like to hear from folks interested in taking the Stanford Machine
Learning course (free) see below. We could create a google-groups site, much like we did for Ed's Graphics class if it turns out there is enough interest. So I'd like a count so that we could plan on additional resources to make our experience even better. If you need more info, simply look at the videos and track down the course materials http://cs229.stanford.edu/materials.html. I've made two pdf's concatenating the Lecture Notes and Section Notes: http://backspaces.net/temp/CS229.pdf http://backspaces.net/temp/CS229Math.pdf BTW: There is an active Reddit group already: http://www.reddit.com/r/mlclass/ It's a good resource pointing to existing videos, questions sessions and so on. -- Owen On Thu, Sep 1, 2011 at 2:15 PM, Owen Densmore <[hidden email]> wrote: > An update and prod for folks interested in Machine Learning at the Complex. > Steve sent out earlier message to Friam on the Stanford Machine Learning > class that is a new experiment on open education: > > http://ml-class.org/ > > The class will be world wide, and free.
