As bad as it looks, the fire is not as threatening as it looks
(perhaps)... the Cerro Grande burn left some pretty good
firebreaks... It *was* declared by the USFS to be the highest
priority fire in the nation... probably because of the
*consequences* if parts of LANL were to go up.
It apparently started at 1 PM was at 400 acres by late afternoon and
has apparently bloomed to 5000 acres...
We've been smelling smoke off and on at our house at Otowi Bridge
and at 8 PM there were "baked" pine needles raining lightly on
us... nothing threatening, but almost as ominous as the imagery.
From my remembrance of 2000, I expect a big need if things get out
of hand will be for pet evacuation handling.
