I feel like this should have crossed my eyeballs on this list ... from Tom or someone. If so, I'm sorry for the duplicate and my inattention:
These local newspapers say Facebook and Google are killing them. Now they’re fighting back. https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/media/west-virginia-google-facebook-newspaper-lawsuit/2021/02/03/797631dc-657d-11eb-8468-21bc48f07fe5_story.html I subscribe to our local McClatchy paper: The Olympian. And, as in beer, I'm torn between a truly local paper vs. one owned by some far-flung corporation. Even linking to Imperialist Bezos' WaPo, here, irritates me. But there's only so much attention I can give to such. Jim Rutt's recent interview of Tristan Harris was interesting mostly because of the underlying principle that eyeballs matter. Harris did a good job of staying on track in spite of Rutt's attempt to splatter the thread. >8^D Regardless, *can* we consciously choose where our eyeballs go? Is that simply more, ad nauseum, free will nonsense? -- ↙↙↙ uǝlƃ - .... . -..-. . -. -.. -..-. .. ... -..-. .... . .-. . FWIW, I very much relate to the article. I am a late adopter of cellphones,
still only having a landline and not feeling impressed when I witness those around me (especially in my school days) *tune in and drop out*. Then, somewhere along the trajectory of my career with computers, it happened. I now spend way too much time online, posting to Friam and navigating an addiction that I can barely admit. Adopting a meditative practice (one that involves a lot of sauna time and cold plunge time) has done quite a bit to bring back *some* self-awareness of the quality of my attention at a given moment. I often wonder, do others find checking in and assessing the quality of their own attention easier? -- Sent from: http://friam.471366.n2.nabble.com/ - .... . -..-. . -. -.. -..-. .. ... -..-. .... . .-. . Jon, I mostly read items on my cell phone that are pushed to me. I rarely write more than a sentence or two in my Friam posts. I administer a Facebook group with 1000+ members for my high school but that takes very little time. My greater addiction is listening to CNN.
