JavaFX

Marcus G. Daniels
I see JavaFX is out.  JavaFX is another in the Flash Silverlight
space.   Runs on the JVM, but that's it.
A couple of interesting things are the hooks for variable updates and
lazy evaluation `bind' feature.

Meanwhile Moonlight (open source Silverlight) is out in beta and pulls
Microsoft's codecs on demand.
And Firefox does audio and video now without any add-on, but only the
open `ogg' format.

Yeah, there's some nifty stuff I would like to get my hands on, and it's
interesting to watch the JNLP operate, but I'm still having some trouble
getting all the demos to work.  Will wait another week and see if things
clean up a bit before evaluating it further.  We've seen the "let's make
the GUI declarative" approach before and it usually gets problematic as
the apps grow, so I want to see a non-trivial app.    It's supposed to
interoperate well with Swing, which could make  me happy since I have a
big investment there, but haven't seen the app yet.
