Java Agent Services

Friam mailing list
Hello,

Does anyone know if the agent community is supporting
the Java Agent Services(JAS) as defined by the JCP?
There are APIs that are FIPA compliant but don't use
JAS. Any word on whether some of the more popular
environments (RePast, Swarm, Jade, RETSINA) are
considering using JAS?

Thanks

John

Last I heard this was in the public review phase.  Once that happens
the JCP recommends a reference implementation and a technology compatibility
kit.  Looking at http://java-agent.org, it looks like the JAS is up
for Public Review.  That's supposedly a 30-90 day process, but it started
over a year ago.  There are final ballots after that.  So it's not clear
what's going on at this point.

I don't know of any ABM sims that have been set up to be distributed between
machines, though there may be.  That is what you would need in order to
have a requirement to use JAS.  In general, ABM sims are set up and torn
down per experiment, rather than set up and reconfigured as needed over
longer terms (say, more than a few minutes).  There are of course
exceptions,
but those still tend to keep all their agents in the same VM.
