Google Changes Tack on Android - WSJ.com

Owen Densmore

Finally Google seems to be taking charge of Android: http://goo.gl/bKiQU

This could mean Android inches closer to a more integrated platform, with unlock and standard UI.  WSJ seems to get the point, that there is a triangle between handset makers, carriers, and OS providers.

I hope this helps reduce the chaos and make it absolutely built-in that new versions of Android are distributed immediately, no fuss, no muss.

But, to be clear: I don't think Google will make it without having their own networks, both broadband and cellular.

Why not?
