Good Wiki?

Friam mailing list
Anyone have experience with wiki's?  I'm wondering what would be a good
one to set up on my server.

Good Wiki?

Friam mailing list
Well, there's a bunch.
http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?WikiEngines
It kind of depends on what you want to do.  Some seem to have
fairly hefty database back ends and search facilities; you might
not need that. I used to have one at BiosGroup for internal use,
can't recall which one; after all was said and done we didn't
use it very much. The Java ones integrated nicely with Jetty.

Lessons learned:
I think the main thing is to commit to promoting and maintaining
the thing; otherwise it tends to go dormant.  There needs to be
some pages in it to start soas to bring people in.  The editing
thing (like peer services) tends to get lost initially until the
users get it at gut level that they can really edit the web site.

Good Wiki?

Friam mailing list
Sorta like writable web pages.  Very nice for blogs (Web Logs) and for=20=

collaborative design and planning.  "Wiki" the word comes from the=20
Hawaiian for "quick", as in quickly build a web page or set of web=20
pages.  Check out:

I was thinking about our wanting a ComplexWiki or FriamWiki.  They are=20=

also great for taking notes using a browser.

Good Wiki?

Friam mailing list
I’d really like to see a place for FRIAMers to post CV’s, resumes, descriptions
of projects, interests, etc. It’s the perfect compliment for the Friday
gatherings, and allows out-of-towners, or those of us that can’t get there on a
regular basis, another level of interaction. How about a separate section for
companies? Companies or individuals or grant recipients looking for staffers or
project collaborators can find the personnel they need. Individuals looking for
work can find projects that they are interested in and make some money. I think
a FRIAM Wiki, or some similar facility, is a great idea. I think there should be
some limitations. Users should be required to be FRIAM list members. Users
should have to go through a separate subscribe to grant Wiki access. Users
should have to agree to abide by a clearly defined acceptable use policy.

I wouldn't say I know much about the subject, but the place I'm
consulting at now
uses Zwiki (see http://zwiki.org/FrontPage). It seems to work fine, but
I haven't
been involved in its administration.
